SMR is a technology commonly used to produce hydrgen in a refinery.

The SMR process uses steam and a catalyst to make hydrogen from a light hydrobcarbon such as methane or propane. The process basically strips the hydrogen from the hydrocarbon and from the water necssary to provide the oxygen to convert all of the hydrocarbon to CO2.
