Sinochem Holdings a large state owned chemicals company in China, comprised of two main subsidiaries - Sinochem Group and ChemChina, both of whom own and operate refineries in China..

While Sinochem is primarily a chemicals company, it has developed a portfolio of refineries over time through acquisition and greenfield investment.

Refining history

1950 - China Import Corporation founded (predecessor to China National Import Export Company)

1990 - Sinochem joined WEPEC JV set up to construct the Dalian West Pacific refinery and petrochemical plant

1997 - Dalian project completed by WEPEC

2003 - China National Chemical Import Export Company renamed Sinochem

2004 - ChemChina founded through combination of companies under the Ministry of Chemical industry including China National Bluestar and China Hoahua Chemical

2011 - Sinochem acquired a controlling stake in Hongrun Petrochemical and its Weifang refinery

2014 - Quanzhou refinery completed by  Sinochem

2021 - Sinochem and Chemchina received government permission for a merger of the two companies under Sinochem Holdings
