SCOT

Also known as:

Shell Claus Off-gas Treatment, TGTU

The SCOT unit is a process that treats the off-gas from the sulfur recovery unit (Claus) to remove residual amounts of of sulfur contaning hydrocarbons.

In the SCOT unit, tail gas from the Claus unit is combined with hydrogen at high temperature to convert all sulfur to H2S.  The H2S is then extracted using an amine solvent and sent to the Claus unit.
