Rheinland refinery

Rheinland is a very large, medium complexity refinery located outside Cologne in Germany.
The refinery is owned and operated by Shell.
Comprised of two integrated sites: Godorf and Wesseling
Shell has announced plans to cease crude processing at the Wesseling site (by 2025) and convert hydroprocessing to renewables production and baseoil production

Refinery history
1937 - Wesseling plant commissioned by Union Rheinische Braunkohlen fuel AG
1960 - Godorf plant commissioned by Shell
1967 - Second train added to Godorf
1989 - Wesseling plants placed in RWE-DEA
2004 - Shell acquired Wesseling plant
2005 - Two hydrocrackers (taken from Shell Haven refinery) added to Godorf.
2013 - Two plants integrated.
2025 - Shell plans to cease oil refining operations at the Wesseling site and repurpose for renewable fuels production.
