HF alkylation is one of the two most common alkylation processes, the other being sulfuric acid alkylation. In both processes, the acid acts as a catalyst. The chemical process is the combining of isobutane with a light olefin (either propylene or butylene) to form a high quality gasoline blendstock (alkylate).
