1949 - Cardon refinery commissioned by Shell

1950 - Amuay refinery commissioned by Creole Petroleum (Standard Oil of New Jersey)

1950 - Puerto La Cruz refinery commissioned by Sinclair

1956 - Bajo Grande refinery commissioned by Richmond (now Chevron)

1960 - El Palito refinery commissioned by Socony Vacuum (Mobil)

1976 - Nationalization of all oil assets in Venezuela and creation of PDVSA

1986 - Acquired 50% of Citgo (including Lake Charles, Corpus Christi, and Lemont)

1990 - Acquired 100% of Citgo

1998 - Creation of Hovensa JV with Hess to own/operate St Croix refinery

2006 - Acquired minority stake in Petrojam

2012 - St Croix refinery closed

2019 - Citgo separated from PDVSA through US sanctions and set up as an independent company
