A dimerization unit is a form of polymerization that converts propylene into a gasoline blend stock by joining two propylene molecules to form one C6 olefin called dimate.

Dimerization has largely been replaced by alkylation units which have the advantages of using isobutane as well as propylene (expanding the resulting volume of gasoline) and resulting in a higher quality product.
