Sitra is a large, low-complexity refinery in Bahrain.

The refinery is owned and operated by Bapco.

It is the only refinery in Bahrain.

Refinery history

1936 - Refinery commissioned with 10 kbpd capacity

1968 - Refinery expanded to  250 kbpd

1982 - Government assumed 60% ownership (Caltex 40%)

1997 - Government assumed full ownership of the refinery

2007 - Low sulfur diesel plant comissioned

2011 - Base oil plant opened
