Meraux refinery

Meraux is a medium sized, medium complexity refinery located on the Mississippi River, southeast of New Orleans in Meraux, Louisiana in the US.

The refinery is 100% owned and operated by Valero.

The refinery processes a mixture of medium sour and light sweet crude oil.

The refinery is connect to LOOP by pipeline.

Atmospheric distillation - 130 kbpd

Vacuum distillation - 60 kbpd

Solvent deasphalting - 22 kbpd - Kerr McGee ROSE technology. 3-stage unit. Uses nC5 and nC4 solvent. Produces FCC feed and solid fuel.

Hydrocracker - 49 kbpd

Reformer - 32 kbpd - Continuous

Naphtha hydrotreater - 40 kbpd

Kerosene hydrotreater - 15 kbpd

Distillate hydrotreater - 40 kbpd

Sulfur plant - 224 t/d

Land -  550 acres

1961 - Acquired by Murphy

1983 - ROSE unit added

1990 - ROSE unit expanded

2003 - ROSE unit destroyed by fire

2003 - Expansion with addition of new hydrocracker 

2004 - SDA unit added

2008 - Asphalt plant shut down

2011 - Acquired by Valero

2014 - FCC (38 kbpd) and HF alkylation unit (7 kbpd) shut down

2016 - VGO hydrotreater shut down
