Clean products refers to the major finished refined products such as gasoline and diesel that meet tight quality specifications and provide most of the margin for refining

This is in contrast to "dirty" products such as HSFO that are of lower value and have less stringent specifications  

The distinction is particularly important in midstream (pipelines and tankers) because clean products and dirty products would use different, dedicated assets (tanks, pipes, ships, etc)
