Pressure swing adsorption is a common method for purifying hydrogen in a Refining by removing other hydrocarbon gases.

The PSA unit uses a moleculer sieve to adsorb hydrocarbons other than hydrogen, resulting in a purified hydrogen stream. Pressure is used to release the adsorbed hydrocarbons once the hydrogen has been separated.
