Dilbit is a crude blend made by combining produced bitumen with a diluent such as light naphtha. Dilbit is a common grade of crude produced in the Wester Canadian oil sands. The diluent is added to reduce the viscosity of the bitumen to a point where it can be moved by pipeline. The alternative to blending diluent is the upgrade the crude through coking or hydrocracking.
