Lemont refinery

Lemont is a medium sized, high conversion refinery located outside of Chicago in Lemont, Illinois in the US.

The refinery is 100% owned and operated by Citgo (formerly a subsidiary of PDVSA).

The refinery processes heavy sour crude, primarily from Western Canada.

Kerosene hydrotreater - 14 kbpd

Distillate hydrotreater - 97 kbpd

Alkylation - 24 kbpd - HF acid

Hydrogen production- 12 MMscfd

Pet coke - 13 kbpd

Sulfur plant - 487 t/d

Refinery history

1925 - Built by CB Shaefer (25 kbpd)

1929 - Refinery acquired by Globe Oil

1954 - Refinery acquired by Pure Oil

1965 - Pure Oil merged with Union Oil

1970 - Refinery rebuilt (135 kbpd)

1984 - Coker added (35 kbpd). Unit 8

1985 - Second coker added (37 kbpd).  UNit 13.  Eventually idled.

1997 - Refinery acquired by PDVSA (Citgo)

2003 - Gasoline selective hydrotreating unit added - UOP ISAL

2005 - Hydrogen plant added

2010 - New ULSD unit added (45 kbpd)
