An ebulated bed reactor has a bed of catalyst that is expanded by vapor and liquid flowing through it. An advantage of this design is that it allows the catalyst to be continuously withdrawn, reactivated and reinjected or replaced with some fresh catalyst. This maintains catalyst activity over time.
