The Houston refinery is a large, medium conversion refinery located on the ship channel in Houston, Texas in the US.

The refinery is 100% owned and operated by Valero.

Solvent deasphalting - 18 kbpd - Kerr McGee ROSE technology. 2-stage unit. Uses C3/nC4 solvent. Converted from SDA. Produces FCC feed and heavy fuel oil.

FCC - 75 kbpd

Hydrocracker - 72 kbpd

Naphtha hydrotreater - 9 kbpd

Kerosene hydrotreater - 16 kbpd

FCC gasoline hydrotreater - 36 kbpd

Alkylation - 29 kbpd - two units - Sulfuric acid

Sulfur plant - 336t/d

Refinery history

1942 - Built

1970 - Acquired by Charter

1991 - ROSE unit added

1996 - Changed name to Basis

1997 - Acquired by Valero

2007 - Hydrocracker added

2008 - SR reformer and distillate hydrotreater shut down

2016 - Added a 90 kb/d distillation tower for light crude. $400MM project.

2019 - Added second alkylation unit, 13 kbpd. $300MM project.
